Es Serut Podjok & Kantine (Cookies)
Kajoetangan always has a way of keeping little surprises. So yesterday, our first stop at Kajoetangan was this sweet little spot called Kantine Cookies a place that’s pretty well known around here for its freshly baked cookies. As we were walking along one of the streets, we suddenly caught this sweet, buttery aroma mixed with the smell of chocolate like cookies that had just come out of the oven. That smell alone was enough to make us curious, so we followed it, and sure enough, it led us straight to Kantine Cookies.
The place itself isn’t big at all. From the outside, you might even walk past it without noticing it’s literally just a small window for ordering, with a few chairs out front where people can wait. But honestly, that’s part of what makes it interesting. Sometimes, the simplest places hide the best things, right?
When we got there and looked at the menu, we decided to try their best seller Cookie Boom, a warm cookie served with a scoop of ice cream on top. The price was also pretty student-friendly, starting from around 5.000 - 12.000 depending on the flavor you choose.
When our order came, it looked so good that we couldn’t help smiling. Just imagine a warm cookie with slightly crispy edges and a super soft center, topped with vanilla ice cream that slowly melts and blends into the cookie. The taste? Seriously amazing! The sweetness was just right, with that mix of warm and cold sensations in every bite it’s addictive in the best way possible.

That afternoon, the weather in Malang was cool and breezy, so we sat down near the ordering window, watching people pass by while enjoying our cookies. We chatted, laughed, and soaked up the cozy vibe it was such a simple moment, but it felt so peaceful and heartwarming.
So, if you ever find yourself walking around Kajoetangan Heritage, you have to stop by Kantine Cookies!
Try their cookie with ice cream that sweet, soft, and refreshing combo will instantly lift your mood. Who knows, maybe you’ll fall in love with the taste and the vibe there, just like we did.
Es Serut Podjok
After spending the whole day wandering around and exploring the fun spots in the Kayutangan area, we finally decided to take a short break and find something to cool us down and refresh our energy. Out of all the options around, our eyes caught one small and simple stall on the corner of the street Es Serut Podjok. The name sounded simple, but for some reason, it instantly caught our attention.

As soon as we arrived, the atmosphere felt different. The place was small but cozy, with wooden tables and colorful umbrellas that had slightly faded yet that’s what made it so charming. From that little corner, we could hear the distinct sound of ice being shaved by a machine, producing a fine, smooth texture that already felt refreshing just by listening to it.
There were so many flavor options to choose from. Some were made with Marjan syrup in classic flavors like melon and strawberry, bringing back memories of childhood snacks, while others used milk-based flavors for a creamier and softer sensation. The toppings were just as fun you could pick bread, biscuits (gabin), or astor sticks, depending on your mood.
We ended up choosing the chocolate milk flavor with astor topping. The moment the first spoonful hit our mouths, it instantly refreshed our minds. The shaved ice had a super smooth texture, soft like tropical snow that melts in your mouth, while the chocolate milk flavor was perfectly sweet rich but not overwhelming. The crunchy astor on top added the final touch, making each bite a perfect mix of cold, creamy, sweet, and crunchy all at once.
The prices here were also surprisingly affordable, ranging from Rp5,000 to Rp10,000, depending on the flavor and toppings you choose. Cheap, but the taste was far from ordinary. The seller was also very friendly, always greeting customers with a smile and chatting casually, making the whole place feel warm and familiar almost like visiting an old friend’s stall.
It’s safe to say that stopping by Es Serut Podjok was the perfect sweet ending to our Kayutangan trip. After a long day of walking and taking photos, sitting in that small corner while enjoying a bowl of smooth, sweet shaved ice felt truly refreshing. Sometimes, it’s the simplest things like this just sitting, chatting, and savoring something cold that bring the kind of happiness that really sticks with you.
